The Story of Blissful Journey by Marina Raye
A few weeks before the recording of Blissful Journey, Charlie handed me a flute he had just finished making, the bass flute that I used on song 3 and song 6. When I played the first few notes on this instrument, I knew that the music from this flute would come from a deep place of peace and bliss. Those first few notes led to the melody for “Walk Between Worlds.”
The day before I recorded Blissful Journey, Charlie and I were walking in a desert canyon area near our former Colorado home. It was an extremely windy day. I looked up to the rim of the canyon wall, and silhouetted against an azure sky was a hawk, doing acrobatics on the wind currents. It was a beautiful sight and inspired song 5, “Playing on the Wind.”
Blissful Journey begins with a sense of walking on the Earth. The sounds of nature call to us: great horned owl on “Winds of Change” and crickets on “Touching Earth, Touching Sky.” Beginning with “Walk Between Worlds,’ we journey into the mystical realms of the soul with deeply emotive flute melodies and breathtaking accompaniment by guest artist Jim Oliver who surrounded my flute melodies with shimmering keyboard textures. We added the faintest whisper of a heartbeat drum played by Charlie.
The intent of Blissful Journey is to calm the mind and open the heart. May this music be a healing journey that helps us to deepen our vision of a world of peace, compassion and bliss.
